The Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) can assist to make your local project a reality. The Sustainable Development Fund (SDF) of £44,000 is available in Wales  and £13,000 in England for projects that seek to conserve and enhance this special Wye Valley landscape.

Projects located within the designated landscape in Monmouthshire, Herefordshire and Gloucestershire can benefit from the scheme. The grant can support a broad range of local initiatives. A selection of previously successful projects include; school and community green-space projects, business start- up which has clear benefit to the area and the community, walk leaflets and other forms of interpretation, and carbon saving initiatives. The possibilities are endless.

The scheme is available to any organisation including community or voluntary groups, local authorities, as well as the private sector and individuals who can demonstrate that their projects have a wider community benefit.

Applications can be for small grants of less than a £1,000 or larger grants of up to £25,000 and the grant can fund up to 50% of the total costs of the project.  In 2012 -13 grants under £1,000 can contribute 50% of the total costs of environmental improvements   including: orchard restoration or planting, and hedge planting and laying, veteran tree works and pond creation and restoration.
