HEALTH AND WELLBEING

Our health and wellbeing are influenced by a number of factors, but studies have shown that eating healthily, getting enough exercise, reducing stress and feeling part of a community or supporting social group can be major keys to maintaining our wellbeing, as well as often also contributing to a more sustainable lifestyle.

Orchard Art Project

more details
Orchard Art is about recognising that orchards are safe and inspiring places for land-based therapy. Groups of people with learning disabilities spend quality time in the countryside in the company of different artists – covering diverse artistic and cultural experiences. We have done everything from painting and creating sculptures to filmmaking, drama, making music and t’ai chi. Achievements are celebrated in an annual public exhibition of the completed works. The project is managed by the Bulmer Foundation which engages the artists and co-ordinates access to a range of orchards around Herefordshire.

Orchard Origins

more details
We work with owners of traditional orchards who are unable to manage and/or harvest them, advising and undertaking maintenance work to keep them fruitful and to preserve and enhance their value as habitat. We work with volunteers with all sorts of backgrounds and are able to offer specific support to people who may have or are managing mental health conditions. Our focus is on improving wellbeing, rather than addressing specific issues. We use the fruit harvested to make a range of food and drinks which are then sold, aiding our sustainability.
