Sustainability Links with Chinese University

During a recent visit to China, Bulmer Foundation Associate Dave Marshall met with representatives of Hainan University to discuss the Foundation's work and to explore possible areas of shared interest. The meeting at Haikou, the capital city of Hainan island, was hosted by Professor Li, Vice Dean in the College of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture. Also present were seven of her colleagues including Professor Li Shaopeng and Professor You Fen Lin and the senior agronomist at the government's Rural Environmental Protection Energy Station of Hainan Province. The meeting covered the Masters course in Sustainable Development Advocacy, the Foundation's work on the triple bottom line value of orchards, land based therapy, and evaluation.

Dave Marshall commented "I received a very warm welcome at Hainan University and was very impressed with the campus and the scale and focus of the University. I very much hope that we find ways to work together and to share learnings between Herefordshire and Hainan. Whilst the climates and cultures are very different, there are similarities between us, including the importance of fruits in our farming and the place of sustainability."
